J.A.K.A.M. (NXS / CROSSPOINT)
Born in Tokyo, J.A.K.A.M., also known as JUZU a.k.a. MOOCHY, began playing in bands and DJing at the age of 15. The band EvilPowersMe, formed with friends he met through skateboarding, released music soon after its formation through labels including one run by American illustrator Pushead.
As a DJ, his innovative and highly original style quickly made an impact, leading to performances at major festivals and underground parties in Japan and overseas. As a solo producer, he has released remixes and original works through a wide range of labels, beginning with a remix for Buffalo Daughter on Grand Royal, followed by work related to artists such as Boredoms.
After recording with local musicians in Cuba in 2003, he continued field recording and collaboration around the world, eventually launching CROSSPOINT as a label pointing toward a new form of world music. His nine consecutive monthly vinyl releases beginning in 2015 became a major topic, leading to further international releases including on Berlin / Israeli label Malka Tuti.
His projects include HIGHTIME Inc. with DJ TASAKA, ZEN RYDAZ with MACKA-CHIN and MaL, and MYSTICS with Marcus Henriksson and Kuniyuki. Beyond music, his work extends to video, art books, picture books and the outdoor festival Oneness Camp “Jomon and Regeneration.”
