DJ KENSEI

Born in Tokyo, DJ KENSEI began DJing and producing in the mid-1980s and has been active at the deepest levels of the early Japanese hip-hop scene. Through his wide-ranging selections and distinctive sound control, he creates original sonic spaces that move beyond genre boundaries.

His work has appeared under many names and projects, including DJ KENSEI, Indopepsychics, Kemuri Productions, Banana Connection, Final Drop, Outerlimits Inc., Nude Jazz, Coffee & Cigarettes Band, OMA'N'SEI, Ispaar Band, Colorful House Band, KOKENSHOW and LOOPS. Across records, CDs and cassette releases, his output reflects a uniquely broad musical vision.

Whether producing or mixing as a DJ, he places great importance on organic groove and physical feeling, even when working with electronic sources. He also runs sorameccer sound design, a label that translates sound and art into multidimensional forms.
